About ABA

The seven characteristics of ABA as discussed by Baer, Wolf and Risely (1968).

The work conducted must have social significance.

It must be demonstrated that treatment resulted in the behavior
change, and not something else.

Procedures for behavior change should be based on the basic principles of behavior.

Procedures used should be clearly described such that another person
can accurately replicate them.

Precise and reliable measurement of the target behavior.

Applied

Technological

Conceptually Systematic

Analytical

Behavioral

Effective

Should improve the behaviors being addressed to a practical degree
for the client.

Generality

Positive changes should extend over time, as well as environments and behaviors not targeted.

Behaviorism is the philosophy of the science of behavior. Experimental
Analysis of Behavior
deals with the basic research, and Applied Behavior Analysis is concerned with the application of the principles of behavior to socially significant issues, in the context of behaviorism (the philosophy of the science).

Behavior Analysis (no Applied), refers to the science of behavior, but when discussing A behavior Analysis, refers to the process of systematically breaking a task into its smaller components.

Other terms such as discrete trial teaching (DTT), natural environment training (NET), and task analysis (TA) refer to formats for teaching skills. They are teaching strategies often employed within the behavior analytic paradigm.
